And when it comes to fashion, there is always something new and different happening.

But how do all of these awesome designers, known and unknown, get their ideas out?

Well, in order to be the first to share the excitement about neon colors or skinny jeans, you have to break the news on the channels people frequent for of-the-moment news. Fashionistas far and wide have come to find that the best way to share their ideas is through social media.

When it comes to big names, Marc Jacobs and Levi’s are just two major labels that have fully embraced the fashion meets social media movement. Another that really stands out is Victoria’s Secret. They have 19 million likes on Facebook, almost one million followers on Twitter, and constantly update both accounts with new products and sales information.

But why is Victoria’s Secret so successful when it comes to social media? What are they doing that other companies are not?

They are simply fully engaging their customers on the channels their customers want to be engaged on. In order to make their products even “trendier,” they create hashtags to go along with their promotions. Interact directly with your crowd of devoted fans on social networks, and your fans will reward you.

Get Hungry for Some Tweet-Eats

When it comes to Twitter your favorite restaurants, food trucks, + TV stars have got it down pat. We know we have.

Well, fear not — Because now musicians like country star Kenny Chesney are using social media to listen to their fans.

As part of the American Express concert tour, his concerts have been streamed live online, garnering over 100 million views. (1)

And at one Chesney concert in Wildwood, NJ, these online viewers “earned” an extra song…By tweeting for it! (1)

Kelly Clarkson is also paving the way for increased social media interaction during live concerts. She asked her followers what song they would like her to sing a cover of. One lucky fan got her wish, and Clarkson sang a cover of the song “Creep” by Radiohead per her request. (1)

Teen heartthrobs One Direction have also taken social media into their own hands, answering questions directly off Twitter during their concerts to thrill and delight their crowd.

But what if these superstars could ask questions of their fans, and create set lists directly based upon what their fans want to hear? With these responses aggregated in real time, allowing for on-the-fly decisions to be made…that kind of power could change the entire experience of a concert.

1. http://mashable.com/2012/06/24/kenny-chesney-concert-social-media/

We’ve all heard about social media strategy, but how much...

We’ve all heard about social media strategy, but how much does one strategy differ from the next? Recently, we took notice of the social media accounts of the U.S. Army and how much success they’ve been having.

And hey, who knows strategy better than our Army troops.

First, their success is rather admirable because the entire strategy is run by only five people. These efforts are lead by Major Juanita Chang, a former active soldier.

Second, the Army has a detailed 50-page manual on what can and cannot be posted. If that isn’t a plan of attack, we don’t know what is. Not to mention, their posts are pretty funny (kudos).

Last, they know their audience, and because of this, they have a huge following.

To our troops, we salute you — not just for your social media, but for everything you do!

No Time to Watch, but We’ll Be Cheering for You #TeamUSAWho...

No Time to Watch, but We’ll Be Cheering for You #TeamUSA

Who doesn’t love the Olympics: The torches, the breathtaking collection of flags, the incredible skill of the athletes + the excitement of competition. But while the athletes are working hard on the fields, we’ll be hustling away in our East Village office per usual.

So how will we keep up with Team USA? You guessed it, social media.

Normally, we’d be skeptical about following sporting events via social media because the information is often disorganized and confusing. Plus, how do you know what your group of friends or fellow fans are thinking if you aren’t sitting right next to them at that downtown dive bar, yelling at the screen together?

Well — this year, the Olympics is being called “the first social media Olympics” and the “socialympics” (1) — so we’re resting assured that the Olympics has got it covered when it comes to real time coverage over social media.

Its official Facebook page was just launched on June 18 and already has 2.8 million likes. Articles, information, and images of the preparation in London are posted around the clock, so that you feel like you’re right in the midst of the action at the games.

The official Twitter page has been around for a couple years and has an awesome + immersive aesthetic. But — as the Facebook + Twitter accounts post much of the same content, you really only need to visit one social site or the other to get your Olympic details.

So what if you could know exactly what your friends thought of that play, that shot, or that run? If you could just ask them and find out in real time during the games…information like that could really add some excitement to your Twitter account ;)

1.http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/SciTech/20120620/London-Games-social-media-Olympics-120620/#ixzz1yLgHxsJw

As we take specialists out of the equation we have created a new and growing pool of analysts, which even includes you (yes, you!). In the past couple of years, as prediction markets have become a hot commodity, studies have proven that Twitter results can be as just a valuable a method to determine the future as standard stock market analytics.

What do we love most about this?

The information for these prediction markets, based on Twitter results, is coming from the tweeting masses. That’s right: Your simple 140-character tweet impacts how people invest their money.

Sounds a little scary, right? Why would you base your investment decisions on information gathered from the general population tweeting around the world?

The answer: Because it works.

Twitter strategies have outperformed other standard strategies by “between 1.4% and nearly 11% and also did better than the Dow Jones Industrial Average during a four-month simulation” (1).

Not to mention the power of Twitter in forecasting metrics like sales of products or sales at the box office. And in many cases, “Twitter might be more than just a mirror of mass sentiment—the service might also influence it” (2).

If you could look into the future through Twitter, like a crystal ball, what prediction would you want to see?

1. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2010/10/twitter-crystal-ball/
2. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/03/120326113321.htm

Tweet, Tweet, Tweet for the Home Team

Following the inception of “Linsanity” earlier this year, the world began to realize how sports fanatics have impacted the landscape of social media. Twitter and Facebook have been catalysts in connecting fans worldwide.

And sports teams are finally paying attention to this social media revolution.

Today, teams like the Chicago Cubs have gone social media heavy (and admittedly, we love it). The team even held a Social Media night, which included swag (that’s right—free goodies) such as social media t-shirts, “Social Media Series” baseball cards, and a panel discussion with some of the team’s most important PR people. This year, one lucky winner may even get to throw out the glorious opening pitch at a game.

Even players are beginning to use social media in new and amazing ways. We give you: Larry Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals agreed to donate 10 cents for every new Twitter follower he received during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, on top of the $1,000 he had already pledged to donate per catch. Sum total? This wide receiver ended up donating a total of $19,000 for catches and $15,000 for Twitter.

If that isn’t the right kind of “insanity,” we don’t know what is.

In a Modern Market, Social Media Really #Counts

Stinkdigital has modified a vastly popular product, the Nike+ FuelBand, and transformed it from a physical fitness monitor into a Twitter popularity monitor.

The Nike+ FuelBand monitors physical activity, coining it as “NikeFuel.” NikeFuel points are delegated to the user as he or she racks up activity throughout the day. But now, Stinkdigital has hacked the FuelBand to measure “TweetFuel.”

TweetFuel is a measure of a company’s success with Twitter. TweetFuel is measured as a result of activity on Twitter (instead of physical activity).

The Stinkdigital TweetFuel account accumulates points by engaging in “social activity”: Each time the account gets a retweet, new followers, or mentions, points are added to the TweetFuel count.

How does it work? When Twitter activity occurs, Stinkdigital’s modified FuelBand machine will rotate. The number of twists that the FuelBand machine makes helps to calculate the TweetFuel.

Pretty cool.

"Tweets past, present, and future now show their exact number of retweets and favorites instead of..."

“Tweets past, present, and future now show their exact number of retweets and favorites instead of showing “50+” if they pass that count — a move that could promote vanity and competition on Twitter.”
